Sunday Praise and a Prayer of Trust

Dear Heavenly Father,

We praise you.  Thank you for lifting us up out of our sin and redeeming us for Yourself.  For being a fortress for us where we can safely live and rest in you, where we can know that no matter the storms that rage around us, you are our hiding place.  Thank you for making our hearts new and filling us with songs of praise, for you are praiseworthy.  Lord, we entrust ourselves to you to keep us from wandering, to keep us walking with you in the narrow places. You know our individual hearts, and you know how to love us, bless us, and mature us, each in our own unique way. Help us to not fight against what you’re doing in our hearts and lives, even when it’s painful. Show us people this week who we can extend the love and grace you’ve given us, that they would be encouraged to entrust themselves to you in all ways, too.  For your glory, and in Jesus’ precious name we pray, amen.

“Praise the Lord

Praise the Lord, my soul.

I will praise the Lord all my life;
I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
Do not put your trust in princes,
in human beings, who cannot save.
When their spirit departs, they return to the ground;
on that very day their plans come to nothing.
Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the Lord their God.

He is the Maker of heaven and earth,
the sea, and everything in them—
He remains faithful forever.
He upholds the cause of the oppressed
and gives food to the hungry.
The Lord sets prisoners free,
the Lord gives sight to the blind,
the Lord lifts up those who are bowed down,
the Lord loves the righteous.
The Lord watches over the foreigner
and sustains the fatherless and the widow,
but He frustrates the ways of the wicked.

Heavenly Father, we praise you today, from the depths of our souls we praise you. We praise you for all you’ve done, all you are doing, and all you will do.  We put all our trust, hope, and confidence in you and in no one else. Help us to see where we have put our dependence in someone over you and may we re-place it where it belongs – in you, in your perfect will, in your plans, in your love for us as our good, good Father. If you choose to use someone to do good in our lives, we praise you knowing it was by your will and prompting. Thank you for providing for every need we have, especially our spiritual freedom, and with it, your peace, both now and forever.  Help us be a light pointing those you put in our path to you, so they, through your Son, can also have an intimate relationship with you and along with it the confident assurance of your grace and mercy to be their provision, their portion, their all.  You are our hope, and we will put no other in your place. We pray in the name of our El Shaddai – the All-Sufficient God, our El Roi – the God Who Sees Me, our Jehovah-Rapha – the God Who Heals, and our El Sali – the God of my Strength, through your Son Jesus the Christ.  Amen.

 

 

Your Day is Coming

“So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.
You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God,
you will receive what He has promised. For,

‘In just a little while,
He who is coming will come
and will not delay.’

And,

‘But my righteous one will live by faith.
And I take no pleasure
in the one who shrinks back.’

But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed,
but to those who have faith and are saved.”
Hebrews 10:35-39

Maybe there are things in this life you’ve missed out on.  All around you there are constant reminders of those things others enjoy and you don’t, and maybe in this life you most likely won’t.

Relationships are gone or never were.

That opportunity passed by.

You wonder what it would be like to live a day without pain or some other sickness.

You see the world normalizing behaviors you’re tempted to, but you choose not to indulge in.

Oh, you could run after them.  You could leave the footsteps of Christ and fill your life with all kinds of things.

But you don’t.  You don’t because as much as you desire those things, you desire Christ more.

Still, it’s hard.

I want to tell you what the Lord told me, because as His followers we’re all one in Christ: “Your day is coming.”

He sees the ache in our hearts, the longing for certain blessings, and though in this life we may never see them, our Father will more than make up for it. He sees our faithfulness and our love for Him and on that day we see Him face to face, He will flood us with a reward so powerful, so eternal, so full of Himself that we will instantly forget that we ever missed anything.

All we’ll know is completeness of love and joy. We will never want for anything again, and we will forever know a freedom the world never will.

For now, we remember that if God has chosen not to give us certain blessings now, it is out of an abundance of wisdom and righteousness.  So we keep our eyes on Christ, our Redeemer and the Rewarder of our souls. And we walk by faith.

Saturday Song – How Can It Be

This song was on my heart today. Even being a Christian for as long as I have, and maybe even the longer I know Christ, the more I’m aware of the blood on my hands…in my heart.  I see my sin in the light of His holiness, and I know I’m not worthy.  I’m not worthy to stand, let alone worthy of His love and forgiveness.

There is still a dark corner of my heart that holds onto the guilt and unworthiness and keeps me bound to chains instead of living fully in the freedom of the life He gives.

But love is not about being worthy.

If I was worthy I wouldn’t need Him, and the cross, unnecessary.

No one is worthy, and yet we are all loved.

Love is who He is.

That’s how it can be.

No Greater Freedom

Daniel knew it in the lions’ den, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego knew it in the fire, David knew it in the wilderness, Paul knew it in chains, John knew it on the island of Patmos, Pastor Saeed Abedini knows it in prison, and countless others know it under communist rule, tyrannical regimes, intense persecution… No matter what circumstances we face directly around us or in the world, no one can chain our spirits once Christ has set us free.

And there is no greater freedom than that.

Happy freedom day, no matter where you are!

That’s My King

May our Lord and King bless you today as you seek Him with your whole heart and as you worship the Mighty One in Spirit and in Truth. If you’ve never heard these Holy Spirit-inspired words from Dr. S.M. Lockridge who was pastor of Calvary Bible Church during the 2nd half of the 20th century, you are in for a treat. He praises the Name of King Jesus like no other. And if you have, well, it just never gets old. I pray it moves your spirit to worship Him afresh.

Less of Me, More of Him

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17

“Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God.” 1 Peter 2:16

Something isn’t a sin just because God says so. It’s a sin because it opposes the very nature and character of God. The more we allow the Spirit of God to live in and through us, the more we will exhibit His nature and give in less to ours.
